Things to Do in Boone with Kids

WINTER IS A GREAT TIME TO FLY FISH

  • FISH WITH THE KIDS IN THE MORNING
  • SHRED WITH THE KIDS IN THE AFTERNOON!

Our Family Friendly fly fishing guided trips and outfitters can help you and your family enjoy the High Country on multiple levels! Our Half Day Wade Fly Fishing Trips are perfect for getting everyone out on the water before or after hitting the slopes.

Our local resident population of trout doesn’t mind the cold at all and on some days the fishing can be very productive.

Avoid the crowded ski slopes on the trout stream!

Our fly fishing wade program can be easily tailored to fit the needs of different group sizes and skill levels. We typically fish within about a 30-minute drive of our shops in Foscoe and Boone.

We provide all of the gear necessary to get you out on the water – rods, reels, waders, and boots. All participants over 16 need fishing licenses.

FISHING IN THE SNOW CAN BE FUN!

Fishing in the snow can be a blast but it doesn’t have to always be in the snow in the Winter! Our Average monthly temperatures for December and January are in the low 40’s.

Some Tips for Fishing in Winter:

  • Dress in layers – complete with wool socks and a cap. We have a variety of wader sizes so even bulky layers are welcome.
  • Bring along Hot Hands – all of our waders have chest pockets and you can have them handy in there close to your body
  • Nitrile Gloves are great for fishing “with gloves on” and keep your hands from getting wet.
  • Always use a net and tread lightly!

AVOID THE CROWDS AND LIFT LINES!

Our Winters in the High Country can be pretty moderate especially in between weather systems. Sometimes it will be in the teens and in the 50’s or 60’s in the same week.

Our trout streams can be pretty uncrowded in the Winter meaning you can have it all to yourselves. Remember – there are no lift lines or rentals involved for our trips so come and join along!
