Explore Tennessee’s Tailwaters on a Two-Day Guided Float + Riverside Camp Experience

Looking for a fully immersive fly fishing trip with big returns? Our Overnight Float Fish & Camp Trip takes you just over the North Carolina border to two of the best tailwaters in the Southeastern United States, the South Holston River and Watauga River, for two full days of technical float fishing with a riverside camping experience in between.

The Tennessee tailwaters are cold, clear, and rich with trout, thanks to bottom-release dams that create stable year-round water conditions. It’s not unusual to catch dozens of fish per day, including wild browns, rainbows, and the occasional big surprise.

Pair that with a peaceful night of camping riverside, and you’ve got one of the most memorable ways to experience this world-class water.

These tailwaters fish best under scheduled dam releases, and we plan our trips accordingly. Expect productive fishing, beautiful mountain scenery, and a rewarding overnight getaway just outside of Boone.

Day 1: Meet your guide in Boone and shuttle to the South Holston or Watauga River. Spend the day float fishing from a drift boat, with guidance on nymph rigs, dry-droppers, and mending techniques suited to technical tailwater fishing.

Evening: Camp along the riverbank at a remote or semi-remote site. Enjoy a hot campfire meal, relax under the stars, and talk tactics for day two.

Day 2: Fish a different stretch of river or return to productive water based on hatch activity and conditions before wrapping up in the afternoon.

We camp riverside in low-impact sites chosen for privacy, safety, and access. It’s a simple but cozy setup with dinner by the fire, and breakfast with coffee by the river in the morning.
